Enjoying the lightI am twenty-four years old and I meet with the church in Pretoria, South Africa. I was saved when I was sixteen at a Christian camp organized through my high school. This was the start of a wonderful relationship with the Lord Jesus, as well as the cause of much confusion. As a new Christian I believed in the Lord, but that was all that I knew. Vague explanations about being a child of God and statements like, Jesus is in your heart, gave me very little comfort. I had so many questions: Was I really saved? How did I know I was saved? What did the Bible have to do with living daily as a Christian? What was I supposed to do now? For a few years I visited many different Christian groups and tried to read many different things, from children's books to Christian novels. I could not be satisfied because I seemed to find so few answers. Christians that I met seemed unwilling to help. I was scared of the Bible, scared that I would not understand what was written in it. I started going to the meeting of the local church in Pretoria. At first this didn't seem to help, but as I started to listen to the sharing there, everything became clearer. The Bible became a book of life because I saw how it applied to my practical day-to-day life as a Christian and to His purpose in saving me. He had sown Himself into me as a seed and He wanted to grow. I was no longer wandering around in the darkness. Instead, I found enjoyment in the clear light of the Word. I realized that God is not vague, but He desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4) Bronwyn Michler | Back to List |
